Dr. Longhorn, Registrar and supervisor of the facul- ty, is one of the best-liked men on campus. His sincere concern and friendship has won for him, a place in our minds and hearts that we will long re- member of our years at VVSCIT. The new graduate study program has. been added to the list of responsibilities for Dr. Longhorn. He has been selected to direct this program, in addition to the position which he holds as the director of the summer session. He also heads the Curriculum Com- mittee and still finds time for teaching government and history. Dr. Hutcheson, Director of the Doudna Laboratory School, joined the staff this year. Although those of us who were student teaching had more opportunity to become acquainted with Dr. Hutcheson personally, it is more than likely that many outside 01' the doors of the Laboratory School took it on their own to come to know this interesting and certainly capable individual whom the student teachers had the privi- lege of knowing. Dr. Hutchesonls primary duties in- volve those of student placement, student teaching, and work on the Building Committee. Dean Hutche- son also teaches classes in critiques. MILTON A. MlaLcnick Profcsmt 1 ! Geology, Dean-Dlmsmn 0f Ft'r'lnmlogy Pioneer Patrons Thirty representatives from twenty-five Southwest- ern Wisconsin communities constitute the Pioneer Patrons. Having formed in 1959, this new group attempts to learn the various functions and projects 01 XVSCIT so that its members can carry understand- ing and good will to their home communities. The Pioneer Patron talks with the iniluential people of his community in order that they can have :1 true, mmposite picture 01' the Pioneer College as it is today. Thus, l'uture college students learn to know what they run expect 01. state colleges, and especially, of 1VSCIT. The Patrons and their husbands and wives visit the college twice :1 year as 21 group so that they can be informed of our progress. Among some 01 the busiest men on campus are Mr. Melt'her, Dean 01' Technology; Dr. Longhorn, Dean of Instruction; and Dr. Hutcheson, Dean 01 Ad- ministration. We cannot deny that among these three Deans, many 01 us are able to claim particular favor- ites. To have known and worked with these individ- uals is justificatimi enough. For Dezm Neither, this has been his thirtyeseventh year 01' work in the field 01' higher enlutution in Plzitteville. He became a member 01' 1111.1. faculty in 11123, where he taught geology until 19-11. In 1911, he became president 01 the Institute. He served as president until the merging of VV.LT. 21nd VV.S.C.P. in July, 1959. Unfortunately, we were not able to :111i1i2lte with Dezm Melcher in his years 01 past service, but now, as a group, we had one year to proudly acknowledge Dean Melcher as one 01' our HWSCIT Deans. Mr. Melcher is presently responsible for directing 2111 01 the students in Mining, Civil, and Prelingmeering, besides holding the rank 01 Pros lessor of Geology. They gain insight into such things as our long- runge building program, student employment and loans, jobs available to students graduating from various majors, the qualifications of our faculty, scholarships, and our athletic program. XVith this information, they act as publicity and good-will am- bassadors for us. Indirectly, we are able to realize that they have proved to he a significant asset to our school. Patrons not pictured are: Robert Tracy, Janesville Mrs. Mch'a Ceach, Arnold Norslien, Mt. Hutch 1Vurren, 111. Harry Speieh, Mineral Point Robert TmViS, Plilllmillc Henry Soldwcdcl, James Porter, Bosmhcl bluutgu, lll.
