DEDICATION On July first of 1959 a long contemplated dream became a reality. Two firmly established state schools of higher education united to become one functioning body. The need for more varied and greater educational advancements was the essential promoter behind the consolidation. The Institute of Technology has, for more than the past five decades, offered services to students desiring an education in the fields of civil and mining engineering. It was first established to supply trained persons for the mining industry in Southwestern Wisconsin. The former Wisconsin State College at Platteville had its beginning as a Normal School in 1866. Through the years, it has brought honor to the surrounding communities and the state of Wisconsin in graduating many capable teachers. Before and during the process of combining the two schools, growth has been evident, not only through the construction of new facilities such as the dormitories, student center, and the laboratories, but in an expand- ing curriculum and an increasing enrollment. For many, growth has been evident in mere awareness of growth - the premonition, the conscious sensitivity, the ideation of it, nourished by the merger. The wedding of two such institutions, each with its opportunities to offer, its traditions to uphold, and its ends to achieve, is a mold - a whole, forging toward a new goal, enriched. The future of this new educational center holds a promise of onward and upward progression. As these changes have been completed, it is in evidence that friendship and fellowship have been born. Loyalties and opportunities have been re- directed and have begun to converge - each teaching the other.

The graduating class has seen the unfolding of the necessary preparations for the merger. Being aware of the enormous amount of coop- eration that was needed to bring about such unity, the Class of 1960 wishes to dedicate its annual to the junction of the two institutions, and the success of that junction into the newly operating Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology at Platteville, Wisconsin. Let it be improved: encour- aged, respected, and propagated.
