Showers and Sunshine Dominated Autumn 1968 Neither treo. nor car. nor KeeD Off the Grass' signs pre- Typical of most campuses, the favorito warm woathor sport of malo students is girl-watching. Showers were a prominent feature of WSU-O during the 1968-1969 school year. Students braved their way to classes armed with umbrellas, slickers, and totebags. Occasionally Mother Nature dismissed the thunderheads and the sun filtered through. The campus awakened, refreshed and ignited with activity. Students sought time for mental and physical enrichment by way of reflection, independent study athletic competition, and the all-American sport of girlwatching. Warm weather finds students on the Union sundeck soaking up the sunshine. 27

Sharing an umbrella brightened the dreariest of days. Dempsey lawn provided a spot for relaxation and study.

28 WSU-O Drama Department Throws The Birthday Party Goldberg and McCanr interrogated Stanley with a sea of absurb questions. The lights went out. A flashlight boam revealed Lulu, sprawled on a table after a scene of madnoss. Harold Pinter's absurd mystery. The Birthday Party. premiered the WSU-O Drama Department theater season. Directed by Don Burdick, the production revolved around the personalities, pasts and pretentions of the characters. Meg, the simpering Cockney landlady, was portrayed by Jeannie Bongle. Dale Klitzke took the part of the misfit Stanley. John Bierman and Jake Laks played the two villains who unmercilessly tortured Stanley and completed the madness present.
