'The fttelldent 5 AleMaje A few days ago in a high school not far from Oshkosh. I talked with a young man who said he wished to become a teacher; it was an encouraging experience and one for which I was unprepared. I am used to hearing young women say they would like to become secretaries, nurses, clerks in stores, social workers, or just get a job to earn money, for the thought is apparently not far back in mind that a temporary job is all that is needed; they really wish to be happily married though they have never come to grips with the accomplishments necessary to be and remain a successful housewife. Young men now are baffled by what lies ahead but in other days they would be doctors, lawyers, business men, inventors, engineers, politicians, and farmers; some were willing to teach as a stepping stone to these glamorous professions. Even those who become teachers often evolve into indifferent administrators where teaching skills and techniques are forgotten and manipulation of records and budgets come to be learned and magnified into important realities, aping business, industry, and commerce.
