fisting., K ktobelfest Oktoberfest opened with the tapping of the golden keg and the queen contest. Because of the large number of contestants this year, five finalists were chosen instead of the usual three. The finalists were chosen fifty per cent on talent, twenty-five per cent on evening gown competition and twenty-five per cent on their answers to impromptu questions. Kristie Gates, a junior at La Crosse State, was chosen to reign as Miss Oktoberfest, 1968. Lou Davies, a sophomore, was chosen as first runner-up. Other finalists were Joyce Kowalewski, second runner-upg jo Splinter, third runner-upg and Gail Tomasino, fourth runner-up. All are of La Crosse State University. The usual panty raid that takes place during Home- coming occurred instead during Oktoberfest this year. An estimated four hundred men participated in the raid. A variety show and the annual parade were other features of Oktoberfest. With the help of the La Crosse Pan- hellenic Council, Viterbo College held its first homecoming game. Viterbo, an all- girls college, invited the sororities from La Crosse to play against them. The La Crosse team consisted of the girls from the Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Delta Zeta and Gamma Sigma Sigma sororities. All girls from Viterbo were eligible. F ?' K . 5 .sf-'f
