A La Crosse Home New Mississippi Bridge The place where the three rivers meet is rapidly approaching the hundredth anniversary that will be celebrated in 1942. Formerly, it was noted as a logging center. The banks of its rivers were dotted with sawmills which turned into lumber the great log rafts floated down' stream from the north country by singing, roaring, picturesque lumberf jacks. Now, teeming, pulsing, throbbing, the city has industry and commerce flowing through its veins. Encompassing 11.25 square miles of land, it boasts of almost 45,000 population and a trading area of 255,460 persons. Industries alone give a combined annual payroll of S7,100,000, while the assessed valuation of the city totaled 547,844,551 at the last survey.
