This fall a small group of students came down to the Publications office and started work on the 1956 Periscope. As the year progressed more people drifted into the office and assignments were given out and editors appointed. Long, hard hours were spent measuring pictures, drawing layouts, writing and editing copy, identifying people on pictures and hundreds of the small, hut important jobs. Work continued and finally the deadline was upon us with only fifty pages to finish. Now with everything completed and sent to the publisher we anxiously await the finished product. CONCERT ... ... REHEARSAL Orchestra is a college-community project, with at least one-half its membership non-college people from the surrounding area. Non-college people join the Orchestra because of a love of symphony music, and college students get practice in playing with a symphony orchestra. College students may also take orchestra for one hour credit if they wish. Two complete symphony concerts were presented by the orchestra this year as part of the Eau Claire State Music Series. One concert was held in November, the other was in February. The orchestra joined the choir in the presentation of the Messiah” and in the Mozart Requiem.” A new endeavor sponsored by the orchestra this year was a youth concert held May 20. The concert was the climax of a young artist’s contest which the group hopes to make an annual event. The contest had two divisions, children 12 years of age and under, and students of 13-16. The two winners from these divisions were the featured solists with the youth concert. ORCHESTRA PERSONNEL FIRST VIOLINS: Charlott Hubert, Concertmistress, Eva- Dahl, Principal, John O. With two minutes left Eau Claire advanced to the La Crosse 40 yard line where the Indians intercepted a short pass and ran out the clock. Please............Please . . Two opposing factions engaged in a violent struggle for the possession of an inflated piece of pig skin; one of them muf tering, Get off my back, and another, Let me outa here. EAU CLAIRE 21, OSHKOSH 0 The opening game was played at Oshkosh with the Blugolds dominating play throughout the game. The Oshkosh Titans failed to make a serious threat. Glen Blumhardt and Ev Gorsegncr saw very little action because of injuries suffered in practice. Ilot Team! Osness establishing a toe hold as a means of sating Blnmhardt from fellow with an evil bent. So bench warmers here. EAU CLAIRE 33, WHITEWATER 6 A blocked punt and three plays in the first five minutes gave Whitewater a 6-0 lead. With Jim Bollinger calling the plays the Biugolds scored three times in the first half and twice in the second half to defeat Whitewater in their first game of the season. EAU CLAIRE 26, RIVER FALLS 13 With the Falcons leading 13-0 in the second quarter they met the finest comeback of any Blugold team in ten years as the Biugolds closed the gap and took the lead to win. EAU CLAIRE 26, STOUT 19 Bollinger ran the team to a 13 0 lead before leaving the game with a broken bone in his hand. He was sidelined the rest of the season. Blaha and Adler took over and led the team to a 26-19 victory. The outstanding feature of this game was the exceptional defensive play of the line. EAU CLAIRE 6, ST. JOHN’S 33 The last game of the season for the Biugolds ended in the injury-plagued defeat for Eau Claire. Because of injuries three-fourths of the Blugold backficld was an untried group, but played the game in good spirit. Mad dog scare lends legs to Blumhardt. Cotta keep those bands clean . . . . but maybe it’s blood. Watuutk, I until my mnma! 140 EAU CLAIRE 33, SUPERIOR 19 Prior to this game Eau Claire had only defeated Superior three times since 1925, two of those wins in 1953 and 1954. Hard running by the backficld and equally hard playing by the line combined to defeat a very stubborn opponent. EAU CLAIRE 0, STEVENS POINT 13 The loss of the Blugolds Homecoming dropped Eau Claire to fourth place in the Conference. The Blugolds play seven conference games, and a win over Stevens Point would have resulted in a conference tic, as they only play six conference games. The best Person oh the team.
