Acquisition of the former Dulaney home by the college last spring, made possible Memorial Hall, the first women’s dormitory at Eau Claire. Conveniently situated on the corner of Garfield and State, tfiis spacious home lent itself | erfcctly to adaptation as a dormitory. It had long been considered as ideal because of its beautiful interior and surroundings. The home was completely remodelled as a dormitory and a third floor added. Work was begun last spring but shortages of materials prevented occupancy until after the Christinas vacation. Although fifty-eight girls moved in at that time, the total occupancy is sixty-two. Matron for the dormitory is Mrs. Elizabeth Gutwasser, Chippewa Falls. Three senior counsellors, Janet Barber, chairman; Ann Lowry, Augusta, and Helen Bischel, Downing, were chosen by Miss Sutherland. Dean of Women, and Student Life Council to aid Mrs. Gutwasser by maintaining supervision over the second and third floors. Some of the rooms house two girls and others four. Freshmen girls are assigned to the large, beautiful rooms for four. Ample study facilities are provided and specific quiet hours observed. The large, well-equipped kitchen is used when residents stay over the weekends. They plan and prepare their meals cooperatively. At present the coeds eat all of their weekly meals at the college cafeteria. Next year it is expected that the evening meal will be served at the dormitory. Memorial Hall has now become a favorite gathering spot for club meetings and social affairs. Meetings can be scheduled on the main floor and in the basement recreation room, which is equipped with ping pong table and a piano. Formal opening of the dormitory to the public was held April 13 and 14. at which time friends of the community and students were shown through the entire building. Twenty
