FOREWORD j Like its prototype of a little more than a quarter of a century ago, the 1944 Periscope is a war-time volume. Again the young men — and in this war, many of the young women, too — of Eau Claire State Teachers’ College have been called to the colors, this time to he involved in the tridy world-enveloping holocaust of war. To all of them, but especially to those who have given their lives, it is fitting that we pay homage in this record of the college during 1943-1944. Though they are scattered from Iceland to Australia and from the Aleutians to North Africa, their thoughts often turn to their Alma Mater and the scenes of their student days.
