VVOOD Janesville, Wisconsin The Iiniversity of Wisconsin Foundation is a permanent non-profit corporation organ- ized in 1945 by alumni and friends of the University to act as a receiving agency for gifts and bequests given to the university. These gifts are used for university development in areas which are not adequately provided for by the ordinary sources of operating in- come such as tax allocations or income from earnings. The Foundation has recently completed plans and specifications for the Wlisconsin Building, which is to be located at the corner of Lake and Langdon Streets. Actual con- struction is expected to begin as soon as the gymnasium annex has been razed to provide the site. This building will serve as a center for adult education. In 1946 the Foundation Centennial Fund was established with a goal of 355,000,000 for some of the universityls special needs. The purposes of this fund are to erect and equip the Wisconsin Center Building, to provide scholarship and fellowships for needy stu- dents with special ability, to finance special professorships for the enlargement of human knowledge, and to provide certain types of scientific instruments and apparatus required by the university for research and public service. A successful reactivation of the campaign was begun in 1951 with a year-end solicitation of Wisconsin industry. With the fund presently past the half way mark, the campaign is now being focused on university alumni, faculty, students, and administration, and VVisconsin citizens, business, and industry. The purpose for money raised in this campaign must not be confused with the long- term program to obtain funds by means of gifts and requests for endowment and other important needs. Therefore, when corporations, individuals, charitable foundations, or trust companies wish to make gifts to the University of Wisconsin, the Foundation is a proper and well equipped agency to receive and administer their gifts. 25
