The Academic The University of Wisconsin is a conglomeration of textbooks, art collections, buildings, and people. There is a mixture of the old and the new. It is an expand- ing entity that began 105 years ago in a small school with a handful of students. Today its campus ex- tends from the fraternities and sororities on Lang- don Street, to the Ag College farms on the VVest side of Madison, and to the state and nation through its extension centers and research projects. It has pro- duced famous men in every field. John R. Commons, Frederick Jackson Turner, Max Otto, Selig Perl- man, Merle Curti, and Farrington Daniels, to name only a few, have spread the name of the University to every corner of the globe. It is recognized through- out the nation for its liberalism, Vitamin Bl, the Babcock and WARF projects, its history depart- ment, the beautiful campus, Ivy Williamson, and Johnny VValsh. It has students from Hawaii, India, and Sacramento. It has graduates in every field and is represented by these graduates throughout the world. To these students it is more than an institution, it is a way of life. Its heart is Bascom Hill, the New Library, the Engineering school or the Ag campus. It finds its life in the art classes, the zoo labs, the psych experiments, the J-school, and the people.
