Edgar B. ( Pop ) Gordon is known and loved by generations of Wisconsin youngsters. For nearly 25 years, he has conducted music classes over the air waves, teaching children of grade school age the fundamental principles of music. The children sing favorite songs in their classrooms following Mr. Gordon ' s directions. At the end of each year, thousands of his radio students gather from all over the state in Madison and other centers for music festivals, where they sing together the songs they have learned in their classrooms. J High school student programs are another radio function sponsored by the university. Spanish class taught over the air gives students in class- rooms throughout the state an opportunity to hear language spoken with correct pronunciation and grammatical structures. Classes in numerous other subjects are offered to high schools by the state radio network. WHA, the oldest station in the nation, is one of the primary examples of the university ' s slogan — the boundaries of the campus are the bound- aries of the state. It, and other state stations, offers a wide variety of educational and cultural programs to state listeners. H. B. McCarty, shown here, is director of WHA and of the State Radio Council.
