To the Students of Western: The preliminary planning of this 1963 Occidentalia was begun in the summer of 1962 and since that time a great deal of work has been done by many students. The results are spread before you on the fol- lowing three hundred-odd pages. The Oxy is essentially a photographic chronicle of the year's events at Western and for this reason our staff photographers deserve much of the credit for the success of this yearbook. The full-colour pictures, taken by Harry Smaller, are, without doubt, one of the highlights of this book. There were approximately forty-five persons engaged, directly or in- directly, in such activities as layout, design and proof reading and, although there were times when the task seemed formidable, in my opinion they came through with flying colours. My personal thanks, for a job well done, go to each and every one of them. l sincerely hope that they enjoyed working on the Oxy as much as I enjoyed work- ing with them. Although the Occidentalia is directed mainly to the graduates, we have attempted to keep its contents broad enough so that all students will treasure it for many years to come.
