Graduation is Truly an exciting milestone in the life of any student. lt is excit- ing because it represents the achievement of a goal which most students look forward to when they enter a university. It is a goal which cannot be reached without ability, sacrifice and self-discipline. These are qualities that can lead to success in whatever career you follow in the future, and I wish you that success. This University has provided you with the best possible instruction, a beautiful campus, and a tradition which is Western. It has tried to help you make wise decisions, to meet the cost of your education, and finally to secure employment. The interest it has shown in your welfare is evidence of the high regard in which you are held. And this affection will not change. As Alumni, you will always be members of the family of Western. QIIIEIIIEBIIUIIE message Education is a Thoroughly social process - behind which are ideals and standards - and inherent in that process is the development of character and a sense of moral and spiritual obligation, without which a nation cannot survive. And as I say to you at Convocation, By the authority vested in me as Chan- cellor of the University, I admit to you the degree of ..., I do so with the knowledge that you have taken advantage of the opportunities which have been given to you, that you have at least pondered, if not resolved in your own mind, some of the great human problems of today, that you have established a set of real values, and that you recognize that as graduates your responsibilities to society and to yourself are great indeed.
