7a '7!ze Affemdeu af 61444 '-41.2 .- The theme of this year's Occidentalia is Reconstruction After the War. Cn general grounds the foresight and forward planning in- volved in this are perfectly sound policy. But in the particular case of this War the prime element in reconstruction is the consecration of all our powers to winning the War. Without a stable foundation there can be neither construction nor reconstruction in any sphere. Assured victory is the foundation we now reguirep upon that pros- pect we must, first and last, focus all our vision. Other views, aims and plans must of necessity be subordinate to this. ln preserving a sane balance between the pressure of imperative immediate duty towards the War and that of secondary and more remote duty, Class '42 may leave as its legacy to the University a positive inspiring example to succeeding classes.
