This iniTiaTion sTarTed Freshie Gordon Taylor on The TirsT of a long series oT proTesTs. These proTesTs reached a peak oT disTincTion Three years laTer when a similar acTion almosT resulTed in The closing of The UniversiTy by The Provincial GovernmenT. Q ln The Tall of our TirsT year we received all The rouTine warnings: speeding on The drive, Throwing lunches around Room 2, breaking TurniTure in Room I9 and daTing college co-eds. These TirsT elecTions marked The beginning oT our period of high pressure poliTics and resulTed in The largesT voTe polled in Freshman elecTions up To ThaT Time. Ken Mooney, aTTer cloisTering himself wiTh Brown's column Tor our TirsT Three monThs, finally decided he had absorbed enough college wiT To wriTe his own nonsense. He bursT TorTh in laTe I936 wiTh The eTiForTs ThaT laTer were To degeneraTe inTo Joe College . AIT Hurley, during The same period, was laying The ToundaTions ThaT were laTer To make him WesTern's number one sTudenT aThleTe. He Tound a place in aThleTic and scholasTic headlines in his TirsT year and has consisTenTly held iT. ln The spring of '37 The Girls' Senior BaskeTball Team won The bronze baby Tor The second consecuTive Time and They've hogged iT preTTy well ever since. The Women's Council, wiTh Dr. Turville as Toreman, were abouT To pick up shovels and dig The ToundaTions Tor a Women's Union Building. They sTill are. Our TirsT year closed wiTh Terry Ferris being elecTed new presidenT and Frances Boyce, vice-presidenT. ln The Tall oT '37, our second year, we iniTiaTed ArTs '4l, only To Tind ThaT a Third Taylor had arrived To swell The Two-man chorus againsT iniTiaTion. The resT oT us conTinued To enioy making The Frosh look silly. IT wasn'T very hard. AbouT This Time, Johnny Loaring, prominenT member oT ArTs '40, ran oTf To AusTralia. ATTer Things had seTTled down again aT WesTern he came back To Train Tor The Olympic Games and TurTher disTinguished himself. We remember WesTern Univer- siTy's radio broadcasT, Avis Clarke shaming Don Redman wiTh her super band-leading, marriage proposals To co-eds, Mooney co-ediTing The JazeTTe land ThaT killed The JazeTTe Tor a couple oT yearsl, The aboliTion of iniTiaTion, and The sTudenT courT sTill remaining a hoTbed oT dissaTisTacTion. AT The end of second Term Terry was re-elecTed year presidenT and Marjorie FeaThersTone Took over The vice-presidency. Our Third year opened wiTh John HunT and ArT Lennox collaboraTing wiTh Bill Bramah in The ediTing of The GazeTTe.
