To the Graduates of l937 HE purpose of your education is to enable you to serve your God and your fellow-men. Dur- ing the period of training you have benefited HADUATION marks the completion of an- other stage in the journey of life. lt opens new pathways which previously were closed and, depending upon the pathway chosen, may lead to much greater opportunity and res sponsibility than would be possible without University training. lf the result is greater happiness to 'yourself and more usefulness to your fellow man, then the objective for which we have striven will have been gained. The best wishes of the Faculty of Public Health go with you. A. l. SLACK, Dean, Faculty of Public Health. by the sacrifices of others. Your parents and friends made this sacrifice gladly and your in- structors rejoiced to see you develop along the lines most dear to them. Your parents and instructors will now follow you as you make your journey through life. Keep your high ideals before you in your aim to serve God and hu- manity. Face all undertakings squarely and be guided by the highest motives. We are now living in a world of hypocrisy and greed and the end is not yet. Uphold the standards of God which will bring to all blessings and happiness. T. A. MacDONALD, President, Assumption College. page :24 A

F should seem almost unnecessary for me to give you advice as you finish your undergraduate course. However, as most of you will devote your lives to caring for the sick, let me stress particularly your sense of responsibility. You are members of a great profession. You are graduates of a recog- nized school of medicine. To you is entrusted the safety, welfare, and often the happiness of human beings. Sickness levels all human values. Pros- trate and weak, We turn instinctively to those who by nature and training are able to allay appre- hension and guide our footsteps along recovery's pathwayp to those Whose innate kindness of heart harbours no vestige of personal selfishness. With these thoughts in mind we wish you God- speed. F. l. I-l. CAMPBELL, Dean, Faculty of Medicine. RISTOTLE said: Education is an ornament in prosperity, but a refuge in adversity. ln the years of prosperity that we Wish for you, may you find in your possession such ornamental qualities as Aristotle meant, and such a well-spring of mental treasures that adversity may not be bitter. May you thus prove your- selves worthy alumni of your Alma Mater who is ever-mindful of you, and Whose greatest strength lies in the loyalty and success of her graduates. DOROTHY TURVILLE, Adviser to Women. Page 23

faithful. T is frequently said today that the professions are overcrowded. This is a half-truth. The crowding is of idlers and incapables: but there is, and will be, plenty of room in every profession for competent men. History bears witness to the fact that those who have risen above mediocrity owe their success less to natural talent than to high ideals, constant application and hard work. They were satisfied only when they had done their best. May I suggest to you, Graduates of l937, that in every respect, both for this world and the next, it is worthwhile now to labour to rank high in the calling that God has marked out for you. ln all thy works be excellent. A. P. MAHONEY, Hector, St. Peter's Seminary. Q ,y 5. T no time in the history of Huron College, as far as l know its records, has there been such a large group of Graduates in so many differ- ent departments as in the current year. Ten hope to graduate B.A., one M.D., two M.A., one BD., one D.D., and two obtain their College diploma of l..Th. We share your satisfaction and rejoice with you. We wish you God-speed. Vtfe, on behalf of the larger body of Graduate members, welcome you to our ranks. A recent graduate, when l asked him to tell me the secret of the love that remains, said it was The wonderful Huron spirit, and, asked to define it, he said Each for all and all for each. That is the true spirit of brotherhood, the spirit of victory, the spirit of Faith. For it is the spirit of the Master who gave Himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time. May His Spirit ever keep you With sincere affection, C. CAMERON WALLER, Principal, Huron College. page 25
