-CHIEFTAIN To West Georgia Students: The crystallization of the Indian ideal found expression in a leader called the chief. To the tribe the chief embodied loyalty, bravery, strength, truth, wisdom and virtue. This division of the University System of Georgia is located in what was formerly the heart of Indian country. The students of the college chose for the name of their yearly annual, issued by its staff, the name Chieftain. To all of us the Chieftain holds within its covers analogous attributes ascribed the chief of the Indians. The various student organizations with their definite objectives and worthwhile aims hold the affections of the group. Individual photographs keep afresh ties of friendships and of acquaintanceships made on the college campus. In fact the whole purpose of this edition is to preserve impressions, resolutions and plans made in the vigor and enthusiasm of youth. The spirit of the Chieftain portrays the spirit of the college. May it be said that here are loyalty, bravery strength, truth, wisdom, and virtue. Irvine S. Ingram, President .-- - --51936
