ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING BUILDING college of engineering During the first year of study in the College of Engineering most students take a common curricula administered by the General Engineering Department. Following the first year the undergraduate engineers specialize in aeronautical, cnemical. civil, electrical, mechanical, mining, metallurgical, or ceramic engineering. All of these curricula are accredited by the Engineers' Council for Professional Development, the princi- pal accrediting agency recognized by the engineering pro- fession in the United States. The courses of specialized study, following the first-year gen- eral course, consist largely of prescribed technical subjects and studies in the humanistic-social area. In addition to the four-year curricula, the College offers a course of study in industrial engineering for which a second bachelor's degree is awarded at the end of five years. After completing the first four years majoring in any of the branches of engineering, courses in industrial management and related subjects com- prise the fifth yoar. The teaching staff of the College is composed of approxi- mately 110 persons, chosen from all branches of the profes- sion. Almost every faculty member has had practical pro- fessional experience, in addition to advanced graduate study. When ranked with schools from all over the country, the Col- lege of Engineering of the University of Washington has achieved a very high status. DEAN HAROLD E. WESSMAN 30

college of business administration The Collego of Business Administration was established in 1917 to help the student understand the economic and business world. Its objective was then, as it is now, to give the student business training rooted in general knowledge and to develop in the student those qualities of and character that make useful, in- telligent citiiens and responsible members of the business community. Specialization in a particular field is provided during the junior and senior years, with majors offered in accounting, business education, finance, banking, foreign trade, insurance, marketing, office management, personnel administration, production, real estate, secretarial training and transportation. In addition to those major fields, courses integrating and supplementing the specialized field of study are offered by the Deparments of Business, Communication, Business Law, Human Relations in Business, and Policy and Administration. Many of the courses offered by the College are open to under- graduates and other schools and colleges of the University. The thorough study of Business Administration that tho College offers is designed to provide the student with a rich, full background of the business world.
