THE SECRETARIES Phyllis Oldenburg was born and raised in Illinois, and has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University. She has lived in Seattle for six years and worked at the NROTC Unit since 1981. The greatest reward of the job has been making friends with some of the nicest people around-both staff and students fthe most important,'Lcdr. Smith, became her husband this past Junej. She wishes the best to this year's commis- sionees and graduates and hopes to see some of you in the fleet. Pamela M. Nowak is from the San Francisco Bay area and has made Seattle her home since 1978. She is a Group Heath Hospice Volunteer, a part time student at North Seat- tle Community College, and is the proud mother of her cat Charlie and her rabbit Thumper. Marlene Sullivan has been at the University of Washington for twelve years, nine of which have been at the NROTC Unit. She received her degree from Washington State University. She is married to Jim Sullivan who is a coach and a teacher. Marlene and her husband reside in Bothell, Washington. She loves her home, hot tub and their mountain cabin. She thinks highly ofthe students and thinks they are the cream of the crop. 13

Leaving Seattle, Washington, he attended Boot Camp in San Diego California. ln January 1976 he attended Infantry Training School and was assigned to a 106mm Recoiless Rifle Pla- 81S C n 314 Camp Hansen Okinawa for 17 months Gy Sgt. He reenlisted in September 1979 for the Drill field, San Diego, Cagifornia and spent 44 ' t l t O t months as a Drill Instructor. He became a Platoon Sergeanl an a er as pera ions Chief, Weapons Company 111, Camp Pendelton, California in a 81mm Platoon for a total of 24 months. He arrived at the University of Washington as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor in the Summer of 1985. Chief Yeoman Clark graduated from lngraham High School in Seattle and received his Associates Degree in Architectural Engineering in June 1971 from Shoreline Communi- ty College. He joined the Navy in November 1972 and was ordered to Fighter Squadron Twenty Four embarked on the USS HANCOCK CCVA-197 and made two Western Pacific deployments in support of the Vietnam conflict. He was then assigned to the Hydrofoil PLAINVIEW CAGEH-15 and received his Hydrofoil Crewman designation. He then reported to the Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, Washington as part of the Commission- ing crew and had the pleasure of seeing the largest military installation built since World War ll become fully operational in July 1981. ln July 1982, he reported as Ship's Secretary onboard the USS SACRAMENTO QAOE-13 homeported in Bremerton Washington. He reported to the University of Washington NROTC Unit in July 1985 as the Unit Administration Officer. He is married to the former Bonnie Freiss of Raleigh, North Carolina. They currenty reside in Bothell, Washington with their two children, Kristie and Kevin. Chief Quartermaster Gregory G. Pyle entered the Navy in 1967 and served as a Quartermaster on the USS PLUNGER QSSN-5951 from 1967 to his discharge in December 1970. He worked in retail management for two years and attended the University of Kansas for two years. He reentered the Navy in 1975 and served on the USS FLASHER CSSN-6137, COMSUNBPAC Staff Hawaii, and the USS HADDOCK CSSN- 621b before coming to the University of Washington in 1984. He is married and has three children, 5 and 3, years old and 3 months old. Current hobbies include golf, ten- nis, racquetball, softball, and bowling. Inactive hobbies include skydiving, scuba diving instructor, hang gliding and hunting. Chief Storekeeper Raul C. Triunfo joined the N ' d the NROTC Unit from us.
