f y ' . r' l K ff I f 9? 4 Lt. Richard A. Heinbaugh, originally from Seattle, enlisted in the Navy in 1973. He served as an Aviation Electronics Technician until he was selected for the Navy Enlisted Scientific Education Program QNESEPJ in 1977. He returned to the University of Washington to go through NESEP and received a BS degree in Math in 1980. After Sur- face Warfare Officers School he was assigned to the USS lOUETT CCC 291, where he served first as NTDS Maintenance Officer and later as First Lieutenant. While on USS lOUETT Lt. Heinbaugh achieved his Surface Warfare Officer qualification. Next he was assigned to USS INDEPENDENCE QCV 625 as Assistant DCA and Main Engines Officer. During this time, INDEPENDENCE participated in Operation Urgent Fury, the invasion of Grenada, and proceeded from there to the Eastern Mediterranean to support the US Marines in Lebanon. After another cruise on INDY, this time to the lndian Ocean, he was ordered back to the Universitytof Washington, this time' as part of the NROTC Staf . As the Sophomore Class Instructor, Lt. Heinbaugh teaches Weapons System and Seapower and serves as Binnacle Advisor. Almost halfway through his second tour at the University of Washington, Lt. Hein- baugh is looking forward to Surface Warfare Officers Department Head Course. After SOPHOMORE INSTRUCTOR that he is ho in to et orders as Chief En ineer on one of the ships in the carrier bat- D 8 S U 8 tlegroup to be established in the Pacific Northwest. LCdr. Cary Harrell received his commission in 1976 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. He completed a BS. in International Security Affairs and was graduated with merit. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer and completed his Flight Training in 1978. A few of his previous assignments include: VP-30, NAS jacksonville, Florida, and VP-4 at NAS, Barbers Point, Hawaii. He transferred from the University of Washington on 20 February 1985 to attend school and then report to the USS CONSTELLATION QCV 641.

JUNIOR INSTRUCTOR i Lt. Mark Cochran is a native of Euclid, Ohio. He graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1979. He was commissioned at Aviation Officer Candidate School, Pensacola, Florida, in March 1980 and reported for training as a Naval Flight Officer immediately thereafter. After receiving his wings at the Naval Air Training Unit, Mather AFB, California in lanuary, 1981, Lt. Cochran vvas assigned as a Navigator and Airborn Communications Officer at VO-4 in Patuxent River, Maryland flying the EC-13OO QHERCULESJ TACAMO' Strategic Communications Aircraft. l-le transferred to shore du- ty as the lunior Class Instructor at the University of Washington NROTC Unit in lune of 1984. FRESHMAN INSTRUCTOR SWS Lt. Michael Dinn graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1978 with a BS. in Marine Engineering. After completing Surface Warfare Officers School in Cor- onadog he reported aboard the Spruance-class destroyer USS OLDENDORF QDD 972l as Electrical Officer just in time for her first deployment. He served two years as the Main Propulsion Assistant and later as the Gunnery and Missiles Officer through a second deployment to the Western Pacific and lndian Ocean. Reporting to the HUSKY NAVY, Lt. Dinn also assumed Sail Training and Recruiting duties while he works on a Master's Degree in Business He has been known to play a little flag football and bad mouth Marines. IAMBO.
