MAHONY assumed command of the NAVAL ROTC Unit and was appointed Professor of Naval Science, University of Washington in August 1981. Captain MAHONY graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1957 with a Bachelor's Degree in Naval Science and was ordered to duty aboard the curiser USS WORCESTER QCL 1441, homeported in Long Beach, California. After attending Submarine School in New London, Connecticut, Captain MAHONY served on various sub- marines before taking command of the USS TRUTTA in Key West, Florida. He sequently served on Submarine Staffs in Operations, Training, and Logistics Billets. Captain MAHONY has also attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Post-Graduate School, Monterey, California, and a Master's Degree in International Affairs from Ceorge Washington University. Durin his career he has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal the Navy Achievement Medal, the S , Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. LT. COL. RICHARD L. BIANCHINO was born in Albany, New Y' York. He received a B5. Degree in Education from the State University of New York, at Cortland and an M.A. Degree in Management from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. He was commissione via the PLC program and has served as an instructor at both the Basic School and Flight School. He was a member of the 1976 Olympic team. His other assignments in- clude duty in the 1st and 3rd Marine Divisions, 1st and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wings as well as Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps. He has been stationed in Okinawa, Pensacola, Washington D.C., Vietnam and most recently, CINCPAC Staff in Hawaii. Lt. Col. Bianchino ,,,4i Major DOTTERRER was commissioned through the NROTC Program in Oregon State University in 1973. Upon graduation from the Basic School he was designated an in- fantry officer and attended the Army Ranger Course at Ft. Benning, Georgia. In lune of 1974, he served in Okinawa, as the Officer-in-Charge of the 4th Marine Competition Squad In August 1975, he served as Ceremonial Platoon Com- mander assigned to Marine Barracks, Washington D.C. ln 1978, Major DOTTERRER was transferred to the Marine Corps Development and Educational Command, Quantico, Virginia. At Quantico, he served as Staff Platoon Com- mander at the Basic School. After several subsequent tours, he was assigned to the University of Washington in May of 1983. Major Dotterrer SENIQR CLASS INSTRUCTQR Born in Margaritaville under a broiling midnight sun, Lt. Ric Weyrick went on to survive a southern high school and escape to the University of Washington. He graduated in 1976, with a BA in English. He was commissioned as a Student Naval Aviator in 1976. He earned his wings in May of 1978. After being the lucky winner of two cruises in the Mediterranean and Indian Oceans, he was sentenced to several years hard labor as lunior!Senior Instructor at the NROTCXUW. After time off for good behavior, he will be serving as Air Department Head on the USS Cleveland CLPD-71. jg.-s5g'N J v iii M ,,,3!,4fs :X X A IU IOR CLASS INSTRUCTORS IHIIIIIE rl 1 fi f ,af Lt. lames C. SMITH graduated from Cicero High School in upstate New York in 1971. He attended Penn State Universi- ty and received a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1975, Lt.SMlTH entered OCS in New Port, Rhode Island in October 1975, and was commissioned 27 February 1976. He then went in- to Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida. He followed that with several additional tours of training, including: Nuclear Prototype Training, Submarine Officer's Basic Course. Lt. SMlTH's first submarine was the USS BARB QSSN 5961. After which, he reported to the USS OHIO CSSBN 7261. There he participated in the initial sea trials and first strategic patrols. He completed two patrols before receiving orders to the University of Washington in December of 1983. Lt. Kim BUIKE, received his commission in 1976, after graduating from Ohio State University, receiving a B.S. in Com puter Science. Lt. BUIKE has served aboard the Spruance class Destroyer USS PAUL FOSTER and the aircraft carrier USS AMERICA. Lt. SMITH departed from the University of Washington early in 1984, to continue his Naval career. SQPHUMGRE CLASS INSTRUCTUR ham at -1 A Q --ww-ff 1 i2.,9'4w,,-fK.v2s , f ,. its Lt. Gary HARRELL, received his commission in 1976 after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. He completed a B.S. in International Security Affairs and was graduated with merit. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer and completed his Flight Training in 1978.
