LT, James E. EGAN reported this past summer to fulfill the duties of Freshman Class Officer. He considers Oregon his home, having joined the Navy from that state in 1959. Lt. Egan served four years as an enlisted man on active duty. When discharged in 1963 he joined the reserves and received his commission through the Reserve Officer Candidate program after graduating from Oregon College of Education in 1967. His first assignment was to the USS HAMNER QDD-7185 as DASH Officer, he served 34 months on the HAMNER in the positions of EMO and later CIC Officer. leaving HAMNER LT. EGAN was assigned to U.S. Naval Destroyer School, Newport, Rhode Island for training. Graduating in October 1970 he was assigned as Weapons Officer on USS BAUSELL QDD-8453 and switched to Operations Officer when the ship was homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. LT. EGAN spent 32 months on BAUSELL before reporting to the University of Washington. He is married, he and his wife Adrienne have two daughters, Leslie 10 and Tracey 7. L. -... s 1 i 4 1,,.:. I .. After graduation and commissioning from the United States Naval Academy in 1969, he attended the Naval Guided Missile School in Dam Neck, Virginia. He was then assigned to the USS Parsons fDDG-335 as Gunnery Assistantflvlissile Officer. After attending the Counter Lnsurgency School at Coronado, he served as an advisor to the South Vietnamese Navy. Lt. Medford and his wife Barbara call the San Diego area home. -f

,JI V: Ls- ,, x -l. Q if' WN. 'Q LT. William R. BELTZ was born on 28 October 1945 at Browley, California into a Navy family. He joined the NROTC Staff this past summer as the new Sophomore Class Instructor. He graduated in 1968 from Auburn University, he was commissioned through the NROTC program at that University and was assigned to the Naval Flight Training Command as a student. After completing helicopter training he was assigned to flying duty. He has qualified in a variety of aircraft and has had tours in several squadrons including a combat tour in Viet Nam flying an H-1 gunship as a member of Helicopter Attack Squadron Three. Lt. Beltz is a bachelor but the Staff feels the odds are against him leaving that way. The Junior Instructor, LCDR Ken Karr, comes from Hamburg, New York. He earned his commission thru-ugh the NROTC Program at the University of Louisville and obtained his BChE degree in 1963. He then attended Nuclear Power School and Submarine School. He has served on the USS Salmon qSS573J, USS Sam Rayburn QSSBNC-3355, and the USS Tinosa qSSN606y where he was the Chief Engineer. Mr. Karr and his wife Cheryl have two childreng Scott and Shannon.
