Asst. Marine Officer Instructor l C-YSGT O'Donnell GySgt Phylip F. O'Donnell reported to the Unit in April of 1980. Before coming here, C-ySgt O'Donnell was Chief Drill Instructor at the Naval Aviation Cadet School, Pensacola. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in july, 1963, and served two tours in Vietnam, in 1965 and 1968. During his 1965 tour, he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received in battle. GySgt O'Donnell and his wife, Connie, and their two children reside in Charlottesville. E We B: Stores SKC Rankin SKC jerry Rankin came to the Unit in November 1980 as Storekeeper and Financial assistant. Chief Rankin joined the Navy in 1969 and was stationed aboard the USS Strong until 1971, when he left the Navy to attend school. He re-enlisted in 1973 and served at the Naval Reserve Training Center at Ma- con, GA. After that he served tours on the USS Pluck and on the USS Sampson. He and his wife, Linda, and their son, l.l., live in Charlottesville. I Secretary Mrs. Parkinson Mrs. janet Parkinson has been a secretary for the Unit since june, 1969. Prior to that time she had worked in the Personnel Office at the Army's judge Advocate General School. She says she has always enjoyed her job here and is extremely glad she made the change. When not working, Mrs. Parkinson enjoys swimming, reading, and tennis. Secretary Mrs. Shipe Mrs. Kay D. Shipe started work as a secretary at the Unit when her husband, Chief Shipe, reported here in 1978. Prior to her job here, Mrs. Shipe worked in the Civilian Personnel Office at NAS Oceana, Norfolk, Her hobbies include reading and culti- vating roses. V,-nw -f - --1 A I I I I C 1 8 U

1st Year l Lt.hAoody nstructor and Lieutenant Martin Moody, the new first year i f' n advisor, received his undergraduate degree in trst compa y Chemistry from the Univeristy of Maryland. He entered the . . . U I E Navy through NUPOCS in 1975, and after attending prototyp training and SWOS, he was assigned to the USS Truxton, where he served as CIC assistant for two years, and qualified as SWO. LT Moody's next assignment was aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, where he worked in the Reactor Department, and qualified as Propulsion Watch Otticer and Engineering ' ' ' 'll hb with his wife Watch Officer. LT Moody lives in Wi oug y, 3rd Year Lt. Larson Lieutenant William Larson, the third year instructor, was a NROTC midshipman at Duke University in North Carolina, where he was in the year group behind LT Payne's. He re- ceived his degree in Physics in 1976 and attended Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida. His duty station before coming here was aboard the USS Scamp, where he participat- ed in UNHTAS 79, an anti-submarine exercise which lasted five months, During this time, the USS Scamp visited ten countries and twenty-two different ports. LT Larson is an avid computer game player, and owns an Apple computer. Marsha, and his daughter Lauren. ,Adrnhm YNCS Brogan YNCS Harry Brogan, currently serving out his twilight tour here at the University, was born on 16 October a long time a o . He entered the Navy for his current tour of duty in 1956, 8 and has served in the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. ' ' d rted YNCS Brogan made Chief Petty Officer in 1967, an repo here in October, 1980. He has two sons and granddaughters and lives with his wife, Sue a Lake Monticello, Palmyra, fksst. l S 3rd Year Instructor l QMCS Simpson QMCS LSSJ Walter Simpson reported to UVa in August, 1980 as assistant third year instructor and bookroom operator. QMCS Sim son joined the Navy in 1965, and has been a submariner P for his entire career. He has served on several SSBNs, including h L' oln, and the USS Theodore Rosevelt, the USS Abra am inc the USS Daniel Webster, and one SS, the USS Clamagore. MCS S'm son also served on the staff of COMSUBLANT and Q I p was in charge of SSBN Security and Operations. He has served as company commander, brigade inspector, and drill master at G L kes, Illinois. QMCS Simpson made Chief Petty Officer real a in 1974. He and his wife, Cecilia, have two children, Brian and Maryanne, and live in Crozet.
