Commanding Officer .av 355 , Captain Peter A. Stark, Ir. , U. S. Navy, a Surface Warfare Officer, is completing his third year as the Professor of Naval Science and Commanding Officer. Born in Timmins, Ontario, Canada and raised in Hibbing, Minnesota, he enlisted in the Navy from high school in 1946. After two years in the Fleet he entered the L'. S. Naval Academy, grad- uating in 1952. Captain Stark's first assignment was onboard USS KICARS.-XRGE QCV-335. Subsequent assignments included: Gunnery Officer, USS PLYMOUTH ROCK KLSD-2955 Operations and Executive Officer, USS CONWAY QDD-5075, Executive Officer, USS l-IOEL CDDG-135, the first Commanding Officer, USS Iulius A. FURER CDEG-673 and Executive Officer, USS PROVIDENCE QCLG-65. Assignments ashore included: Ordinance Officer, Staff Commander Naval Air Force, U. S. Atlantic Pleetg Retrieval Techniques Officer, Pro- ject Mercuryg Officer in Charge, Naval Preparatory School, Bainbridge, MD, Student, Command and Staff Course, Naval War College, Newport, RI, first Coastal Advisor and Commander, Northern Surveillance Group CCTG 115. ll with headquarters in Danang, Republic of Vietnam. just prior to reporting to the NROTC Unit, University of Virginia, Captain Stark served as Director, Officer Programs Division, Navy Recruting Command headquartered in Washington, D. C. Captain Stark holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the U. S. Naval Academy and a Master of Science Degree from George Washington University. He is married to the former Barbara M. Harris of Baltimore, MD. They have three sons: Tim, who grad- uates from the Navy Academy in june 1978 as a Surface Warfare trainee, jeff, who is completing his first year as a member of the NROTC Unit at Vanderbilt University, and Chris, who is completing STH grade. Their home has been That Lasagna P1ace for the past three years.

N Executive Cfficer .1 2-5 . 3 p Commander Edward A. Davis was born in Norristown, PA, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1962. He has also attended Villanova University and the University of Virginia. He received his wings in March 1964. On August 26, 1965, Commander Davis was shot down over Vietnam on his 57th mission from the aircraft carrier USS QORIS- 1 KANY. He was captured the following day, and spent the next 7 112 years as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam. He was released on February 12, 1973, and after returning 5 home did full-time graduate study at the University prior to joining the Unit Staff in 1975. Commander Davis is interested in sports, music and public speaking, and has been a member of National Scholastic Champion Crew teams. He calls his favorite hobby collecting things -- especially automobiles and model trains. He lives in Charlottes- ville with his wife Elaine and daughter jennifer. Marine Officer Instructor ' 3- A Major M. A. Roesch, III is a graduate of VPI 8: SU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Operations Re- search from the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He was commission- ed a 2ND LT, USMC in june 1962 and since that time has been assigned to 1ST Marine , Division, Camp Pendleton, CAQ 3RD Marine Division, Vietnam, Marine Corps Supply Center, Albany, CA5 Postgraduate Schoolg 3RD Marine Division, Okinawag Marine Corps L Development and Education Center, Quantico, VAQ and Marine Corps Command and Staff College. Major Roesch, who has been with the Unit for two years now, enjoys running and military history. He lives in Albermarle County with his wife joyce and their two sons Tim, who is 17, and Tom, who is 13. t, I
