Chief Petty Officer Ernest Wade, a native of Virginia Beach, enlisted in the Navy at seventeen, earning him the title of Kiddie Crusoe. Having been in the Navy for eighteen years, he has served on many ships, including: USS ALA- GASH, USS BETELGEUSE, USS REGAL, USS SIERRA, USS VOGELGESUNGE, USS NAVY CRUISE, and the USS CHAR- LESTON. He was also assigned to Inactive Ships Mainte- nance in Portsmouth, VA. Chief Wade is currently Store- keeper, Fiscal Supervisor and Senior Enlisted Advisor. One of his favorite hobbies is hunting. J l as and David William. and his wife Gail have three children. Lieutenant Robert L. Williams was born in San Diego, CA spent part of his childhood in China, and then attended high school in Northern Virginia. He is a graduate of the U. S Naval Academy with a major in physics. After graduation, LT Williams went to Nuclear Power School. He spent three months as a sailing instructor at the Academy, and served as ASW Officer on the USS SOUTH CAROLINA. At the Unit he is the First Year Instructor and First Co. Advisor. He A9 C YN1 CSSJ P. T. K. Pfotenhauer, a native of Germany, en listed in the Navy in 1960. After a tour on board USS SARA 'TOCA and attending YN A School, he was assigned to EP DOLANT for a tour of shore duty. In 1965 he attended YN B School, followed by a tour in Vietnam as a River Patrol Boat crew member. In 1970 following assignments with various Atlantic Fleet Aviation units, he volunteered for submarine duty. He served on board USS RAY, USS VON STEUBEN, and USS SILVERSIDES before joining the Unit in 1975. He and his wife Nancy have two boys, Peter 'Thom

Lieutenant john D. Cann is finishing up his last year with the Unit as Fourth Year Instructor. He received his com- mission through the NROTC program at the University of Virginia in 1971, where he majored in history. Subsequent ly, he served as Damage Control Assistant on a DE and on , M , a DLG, both homeported on the West Coast. At the Univer ' 3 sity, LT Cann is completing his studies for a Masters De- gree in American History. At the Unit, he is the advisor to both the Honor Guard and the Trident Society, and claims he still knows more about basketball than anybody else here. As he is no longer responsible for summer cruises, the LT requests you don't blame him for going to Diego Garcia. He is single and lives in Charlottesville. 2 Lieutenant Douglas R. Stover, the Third Year Instructor, raduated from Lycoming College in 1972 where he major- g 1 , ed in mathematics. ln 1973, after receiving his commission ' ' ' ' - A-6 through AOC School, he was assigned to VA 176, an Intruder Squadron based at NAS Oceana. As a member of this squadron he made two Med deployments, the first aboard the USS RCJOSlfiVEL'l7, and the seoncd aboard the USS .-XMI-IRICI,-X, .-X graduate student in Systems Engineering at the University, at the Unit LT Stover serves as Third Co. Advisor, Textbook and Training Aids Control Officer, M Welfare and Recreation Officer, and as shortstop for the Staff softball team. lie and his wife Emily live in Char- 3 lottesville. structor, reported to the Unit from the USS RICKETTS guided-missile destroyer homeported in Norfolk. Commissioned in 1973 through the NROTC program at Dartmouth College, where he received an A. B. in history, his duties at the Unit include Second Co. Advisor, Public Affairs Officer, and Long Glass Advisor. LT Woodhouse enjoys snow skiing and model building. He, his wife Kath- leen and his daughters Elizabeth and Meghan reside in Charlottesville. Born in Ohio in 1946, QM1 Hasson enlisted in the Navy after working as a pro- fessional Writer and artist. He served on the USS GRIDLE Y and was in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. He also worked in Fleet Support Office in Athens, Greece. After being pro- moted to Quartermaster, he went to submarine school and -v then served on the USS GRANT. He and his wife Iudy have Q, Q three children, Geoffry, Matthew, and Christopher. His g hobbies are backpacking, flyfishing and medieval religious ' art. 'Ji SSGT. Charles A. Abbey is the Assistant Marine Corps ln- structor at the Unit, He has been in the Marine Corps for nine years, and has trained with British, Korean, Phillipino and Canadian Marines. He was a drill instructor at Parris Island for three years, and played football for the Marine Corps for five years. The SSGT served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. At the Unit, he teaches drill, parade and ceremonial marching. He enjoys sports and hunting. SSGT Abbey and his wife Roxanne are the proud parents of a six year old daughter. Mrs. janet S. Parkinson, the Unit's secretary, came to work here in june 1969. Prior to that time she worked in the Personnel Office at the Army's IAG School. She says she has always enjoyed her job here with the Navy and is extremely glad she made the change. Mrs. Parkinson is responsible for most of the work that allows the Unit to run so smoothly and efficiently. Her hobbies include latchet hooking, reading, swimming and tennis. She lives in Char- lottesville with her two teenage daughters, Linda and janet.
