THE PICKWICK AFFAIR A devious and mysterious conspiracy perpetrated by a UVic student and a Victoria sculptor revealed itself dramatically one dark, cold spring evening. A truck roared to a stop outside City Hall. Several men dressed in workmenas clothes heaved a shrouded large heavy object into the portico. A masterpiece of precision timing, the truck disappeared with its occupants into the night four minutes later, leav- ing behind a seven-foot statue of the lovable, portly Dickensian gentleman, Mr. Pickwick. City Hall was not amused, but it proved some task for city work- men to remove the one-ton statue. Student Jerry Boultbee and Victoria sculptor Clinton Hull later revealed themselves. Mr. Pickwick now guards the entrance to the Village Fair in Bastion Square.
