M Ta!! honor was bestowed on Frank Taylor, in the form of a special blanket With four stars attached, in recognition of his feat of earning four major letters in one year. The house dances of the fall season culminate in the Christmas formals, which mark the close of the informal fun of autumn and with white ties, tails, sweeping evening gowns, and gaiety usher in the winter season. For two week-ends the campus cut loose with its most elaborate fraternity formals of the year, with the week between occupied with a mad scramble of hour exams, papers and general finishing up activity before the vacation. Each week-end one-half of the fraternities hold their formals, and the best work of the social committees of the various houses go into making these dances the most successful of the season. Universal decorations such as ski hut interiors or Christmas parties, combined with the smoothness of formal attire, turn the fra- ternities into ballrooms as the campus Hnishes its fall activities in high. z'Ae Ta!! to drive the student indoors for his entertainment. The interfraternity football league finishes with Kappa Sigma triumphant and the varsity team, after losing to a powerful Norwich squad, rounds out its season with a rousing victory over Middlebury-through a driving snow and on a muddy field Vermont senior stars--Taylor, Carlson, Lawrence, Strassburg, Reed, Salmon, Utley, Reed. Pye, Nichols, Broutsas and Corbett, drive to victory in the manner which marks them as the finest Vermont has ever produced. Moving indoors with the start of the basketball season, the season of the dances begins. The Military Ball, colorful and impressive, finds Miss Sally Rome, a most charming Co-ed Major reigning over the festivities. The Key and Serpent Football Hop, in honor of the football squad, marks the official close of the football season. TEA DANCE AT THE SIGMA ALPHA EPSILON HOUSE snow turns the out-of-doors into a winter won- derland as a complement to the gay interiors and all work together to make the final parties the greatest of successes. As the student body makes its preparations to return home for the Christmas holidays they look back on a fall season which has found varied activities keeping all the campus busy. The football team finished its season successfully, the cross-country squad had a perfect year, the basketball season got underway, fraternity rush- ing came and went-all rounded out a fine fall season. So, as the loaded trains and cars pull out through the snowy countryside, bearing the Vermonters to their far flung homes for the vaca- tion, memories and anticipation mingle in mak- ing the trip one of the gayest events of the year.
