After graduating from West Point, he had many years of active service on the frontier of the United States, -then disturbed by Indian tribes and lawless white elements. During the Spanish-American war, he commanded a regiment of Nhinnesota Volunteers. Served over four years in the Philippine Islands during the Insurrection and was commended for gallantry in action. Retired in 1912, he returned to active service when war seemed imminent. Detailed as Professor of Military Tactics at Vermont in 1917. A. K.
