Q1872-19555 For 21 years Southwestern Medical Foundation has carried on a con- tinuing program to raise the levels and increase the intensity of medical re- search, medical training and patient care in this region. The Foundation spearheaded the development in Dallas of an outstand- ing medical college--The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School which is one of the top medical schools of the nation. It continues to give strength to the medical school through salary supplements to its top teach- ing and research people and through the underwriting of special research projects. From the beginning it has given leadership and impetus to the concept of developing a great and thoroughly planned medical center to serve Dallas and the whole Southwest. The elements of this center which have already been developed fParkland Memorial Hospital and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Saint Paul Hospital which is now under constructionj foreshadow the massive long-range development program which is contemplated in the master plan for the medical center. Southwestern Medical Foundation belongs to the public and was created to serve the public. Founded as a non-profit corporation in January, 1939, it looks to the general public for its support in the form of gifts, endow- ments and special contributions.
