Academics Nursing The Nursing Education depart- ment grants an associate of applied science degree in nurs- ing. Graduates receiving this degree are eligible to take the state board examination, which is required of all registered nurse candidates. After passing the examination, the graduate is issued a license by the State Board of Nurse Examiners to practice as a registered nurse. A special laboratory is set up to simulate a hospital so students can get their training as nurses. Minors are in the fields of health and physical education and health education. A major in health and physical education for the secondary level or a health and physical education all-level teaching plan is available. In order to be graduated, four semester hours of credit in physi- cal education are required for all students. The department sponsors the Health and Physical Education Majors and Minors Club. I if Academics Cooperative Education This is a program which com- bines academics and practical experience. The University Cooperative Education Program is a four-year plan of education in which the students alternate periods of attendance at the University with periods of employment related to their col- lege course of study and individ- ual interest. Cooperative Education Program is an optional work study pro- gram available to the above- average student with a 2.25 GPA or more. The student must com- plete at least three work periods of four months each or two work periods of six months each.
