The school of Education for the past several years has sponsored or played host to more than 6,000 Valley teachers and their annual fall convention fDistrict l-TSTAJ. It also has sponsored the District UIL contests for public school youngsters for the ast four years. Some interesting subjects taught in secondary education are par- ametric statistics, field based freshmen courses Cfor future teachersj, three different student teacher experiences and profes- sional ethics.

Academics Elementary Education In this department a great deal more than mere scholastic abil- ity is involved. Physical and mental health, moral ideals and professional attitudes are major considerations. Elementary education, guidance and counseling, special educa- tion, bilingualfbicultural educa- tion and reading are available majors which all have graduate programs. Graduate assistants are used in introductory courses to teaching. Students may obtain a bachelor of science degree in the fields of elementary education and ele- mentary education bilingual! bicultural. A masters in educa- tion is offered in elementary education, counseling and guid- ance, educational diagnostician, bilingualfbicultural education and reading. The department of Elementary Education sponsors the Student National Education Association and Delta Kappa Pi which are student education organizations.
