Academics xii-1 History This department offers a major in history and for graduates, a master of arts degree. Some graduate students assist in teach- ing American heritage courses. Also, for the graduate, the department offers 10 seminars at the graduate level. The History department teaches an Honors American heritage class and sponsors Phi Alpha Theta, a national honorary fra- ternity for history students.

Academics Speech and Drama In the department of Speech and Drama a bachelor of arts degree is offered with majors in speech and drama. The department also offers minors in speech and drama. Students majoring or minoring in speech may become teachers, or use their work in preparation for such professions as law, min- istry, speech therapy or pathol- ogy, television, radio or commu- nity services. Speech students may select a curriculum for a major in speech or an elementary or secondary teaching plan. Academics Physical Science Astronomy, engineering, geol- ogy, physics and physical sci- ence are all components of the depaitment of Physical Science. A bachelor of science degree is offered with a major in physics. Students can obtain a minor in geology.. physics, astronomy, engineering and physical sci- ence. The department offers a two year program in pre-engi- neering. Geology students may receive a minor in geology or an earth science elementary or sec- ondary teaching plan. Physics students may elect to receive a major in physics or a physics ele- mentary or secondary teaching plan. The department makes use of such facilities as the electronics lab, planetarium and observa- tory. lt sponsors the Geology Club and the Society of Physics Students. These club organiza- tions make field studies of Mexi- can geology.
