El Club Espanol is sponsored by the Foreign Languages depart- ment which also sponsors other programs such as the beginning Spanish honors class, Spanish pays, Spanish labs and a mini- ab in the library with tapes in French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. It trains musicians who major or minor in one of the programs offered by the aca- demic arm of the Music department. Students may follow either a performance curriculum, which pre- pares them for further study and a possible concert career, or they may major in the area of music edu- cation, which prepares them for teaching. A second function is to furnish auxiliary courses for majors in elementary education. Elective courses are also offered to students. The Music department sponsors organizations such as Mu Phi Epsilon honor sorority for women, the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Honor fraternity for men, and the student chapter of the Music Educators National Conference.
