Academics Art The Art department is studio- oriented, stressing individual student development in visual perception, and personal cre- ative expression. As a vehicle for increased professional expres- sion, basic drafting and craft skills are emphasized in the basic studio areas of drawing and design. A continuation of mas- tery, coupled with individual vis- ual statements is fostered in painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, photography and mixed media areas. The department also serves as a resource for teacher training at the elementary and secondary level. Due to proximity to Mex- ico and South America, art his- tory courses with emphasis on the Latin-American Arts are taught.
