... 1 we-ill-2 L...Lil5 .r WD Fmt Registration There may be times when students seem uncon- cerned about classes. Registration is not one of those times. The determination of students in pur- suing their education was apparent by the length and breadth of the waiting lines at the registration area's gates. At last count 7,310 students had met the challenge of signing up for still another semester at Pan Am. Once inside the registration area, students scram- bled toward many of the lines forming at the desks of the different academic departments. Despite the wait, as their schedules began to take shape stu- dents could be seen socializing gaily. in-55-U..'1 ' 41 D,-'P' -N w..C1. For students who needed guidance during registration there was always the helping hand of the faculty. The look of hope on this student's face seems to say it all. At the starting gate of the PAU gym where registration is held, students started off fresh and waited with anticipation. With the large number of students, this photographefs job was long and tedious. Two lovely co-eds searched for classes to fill their schedules. Here we have our Director of Admissions connecting a telephone, during registration. Waiting is always synonymous with registration.

Upper-classmen can reflect on the way it was and still enjoy the increased benefits of newer and better facilities, while the freshmen can enjoy the new- ness of it all. A Marine Biology Lab at Padre Island has been recently com- pleted. It consists of classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices and a museum. New recreational facilities, along with administration offices, con- ference rooms, and several stu- dent offices were made available with the completion of the Uni- versity Center. The School of Business and the School of Nursing and Health Related Professions buildings are due for completion this year. The Bureau of Business Research Computer Center will be in the new Business Adminis- tration Building. The Spanish arcnitecture, a dominant feature of all the buildings on campus, will be also included in other buildings-the Art Annex and the Learning Resources Center which are to be started soon.

Carnival of the Great Pumpkin See It Linus! Despite some confusion as to when the Carnival of the Great Pumpkin was scheduled, it turned out to be one of the most successful carnivals in several years. The Carnival set-up was characterized by the traditional circular pattern, around which the booths were placed. In the center of the circle, three bands played continuous music, one after the other. The UCPC spon- sored carnival afforded each organization the opportunity to have a money raising project and enhance school spirit by ini- tiating competition among the ,SX various organizations and Greeks, for a S100 first place prize for the most original booth. Among the various booths were: a marriage booth, bucking bar- rel, egg-throwing booth, brain- wash-a-prof, and several others. First prize for the best booth went to the members of the Newman Movement for their Horror House. Xi s, fr X v l I V a r .-A .
