Throughout the law school and jround the world people glued their faces to the TV set on Oct. 3, 1995 at 11:59 a.m. anxiously awaiting the answer to the year long question, Did OJ do it ? For Los Angeles police the who- dunit part didn ' t last very long. Five days after the murders, police arrested Simpson at his home following a 60- mile, low-speed car chase on a Southern California Freeway. The story had all of the ingredients of a good mystery: a bloody glove, a mystery envelope, wacky witness Kato Kaelin, racist detective Mark Fuhrman, a loveable Judge Ito, sly Johnny Cochran and faceless jury. The trial became a part of everyday life for near- OJ - T ial of the C enturt)? ly 16 months. Opinions abounded and tabloids rejoiced. Then at noon on Oct. 3, 1995, America gasped for air as she turned to the last page of the book. NOT GUILTY. Reality punched us in the face. Reactions were diverse, the nation was torn between celebration and dis- appointment, two people were brutally murdered, and a lengthy trial ended with the last page missing. So now what? We close the book, fill the end- ing with our opinions and let it gather dust on our collective bookshelf. - Bahareh Poursepanj Phc case brought a lot of attention to Kow the justice sustcm worlcs. — Penxj ) iampton, senior (Photob by ]ohu Foxivorth) OJ.
