American Journal of Criminal Law From its inception in 1972, the American Journal of Criminal Law has been one of the few nationally recognized law journals dedicated exclusively to criminal law. Journal subscribers include courts, libraries, law firms and law enforcement agencies in all fifty states as well as fifteen foreign countries. It has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeal and many state supreme courts. The AJCL is the only student legal publication at UT that allows first years to become staff members during their first year of Law School. This is a result of the Winter Write-On Competition that is conducted by the Journal, separate from the normal all-school write-on competition. Consequently, the Journal is the only UT legal publication to allow second year students to become editors. This has provided those lucky students with invaluable managerial experience. The AJCL is proud of its diverse membership. Despite their extremely different political orientations, the “bleeding heart liberals” and the “neo-fascist concervatives” on the editorial board manage to live, breathe and work in harmony. Last, but not least, the AJCL boasts some of the rarest Elvis black velvets ever made. And these, we have found, arc at the center of each members’ drive to be the best he or she can be.
