A toughic for trivia buffs: who is the patron saint of the law school? The Peregrinus. This exotic creature emerged from classroom antics at the turn of the century. Lecturing in his Equity class on the Roman system of traveling judges called Praetors Peregrinus, Judge W. S. Simkins asked a daydreaming student to explain the previous class discussion. Judge, I don't know, unless it was some kind of animal. rq lied the weary student. To further the student's misery, a fellow classmate rendered a blackboard caricatureofa Peregrinus. This curious beast of Equity evolved with traditional meanings attributed to its physical features. The sharp beak penetrates the mysteries of the law, the arched back can spring forward to protect justice, and the hind quarters are those of a dog, man's best friend. The feet are clad in boxing gloves to show the power of the law and working boots with a lone star to symbolize legal protection accorded the common man. The bushy tail is poised to clear away technicalities so that Equity prevails. Now going on almost nine decades of guiding law students through UT's rigors, the Peregrinus remains our traditional symbol. The Peregrinus has been the yearbook's namesake since 1949, and the custom continues. 2 — Peregrinus Staff

From dances to trials to journals to a cool one at Dry Creek, the extracurricular activities kept us on track and removed the blinders that kept many students buried in the books. Organizations page 30 Law school organizations provided a way for students to break section barriers and to branch out in to new circles of friends and colleagues while performing useful work. Faculty page 63 With the anonymous grading system, faculty members can be super comrades for law students during school, assisting with writing skills and counseling on career choices. Students page 96 4 Since there are more students in law schools than there are practicing attorneys, the goal of UT law students is to be the best, yet still remain individual, happy and sane.
