Law students do the whip” in and around the ballroom. Puttin’ on the Kit SBA puts on ‘Ritz’ to ease winter blues Friday the 13th may have been a ghoulish day for some people, but this particular Friday, February 13th was a fun and frivolous night for about 200 law students who partied at Puttin' on the Ritz.' The Student Bar Association sponsors this semi-formal dance around Valentines Day. Consequently, the event is attended by many couples. The second annual soiree was held at the Sheraton Crest Hotel, in the ballroom, from 9 p m. to 1 a.m. The SBA provided free drinks until their funds were exhausted, and then switched to a cash bar. The free drinks lasted until about 11:30 p.m., and were served from four bars. Tickets to the party were $5. The Putting on the Ritz party is not as highly attended as the SBA’s Fall Drunk, but SBA President Russ Miller said that the turnout this spring was strong, and about the same number of students attended as went to the first Valentines Dance in 1986. A local disc jockey was spinning Top 40 hits for the dancing crowd, who often spilled over into the surrounding tables. At one point, the group danced the whip all around the Sheraton's second floor. Two brave dancers strut their stuff on the makeshift stage while other paniers stick to the dance floor. Puttin' on the Ritz — 29
