tmM Q People Are Talking Attorneys are now advertising on television. What are your thoughts concerning such advertisement? BRUCE ROBERTS: ”1 have seen one ad. I wasn't impressed by it. If I was a client, I don't think I'd go there. It was followed by a used ear ad. it was hard to tell the difference. I am not opposed to attorneys advertising. BETTY BLACKWELL: 1 don't like it. I don't mind newspaper advertisements, but television seems more commercial, and cheapens the reputation of the legal field. Bruy Blackwell Q The Sunset Commission made several recommendations this • year concerning the Stale Bar of Texas. W hat are your thoughts regarding pro|M sed changes? DOUGLAS COLLINS: 1 would recommend that the Declaration of Intent be made transferable from state to state. I don't think first-year law students should have to make what is essentially a bet on their future willingness to stay in Texas. SCOTT SMITH: The Sunset changes are necessary because entering fresh laws are confronted with a form about which they know very little. Without the changes, they are giving out a lot of information at a time when they are so busy, they do not have time to consider the consequences. Dean Smith has resigned in order to return to the classroom. , . What directions would you like to see the new dean pursue once selected? JIM PRINCE: I primarily see the dean's role as a liaison between the alumni, the Law School Foundation ami the faculty. Because of that. I feel that whoever the new dean is. he has to have good rapore with the alumni. I have strong feelings about the national scope of this law School. The new dean should have that uppermost in his mind. FAITH STOVALL: The new dean should be in touch with the students on a regular basis. I am a freshlaw so I know very little about the workings of the Dean's office. Scon Smith Faith Stoull
