Moot Court And Trial Competition This year the Board of Advocates administered ten trial and appellate advocacy competitions. Intrascholastic competitions included the freshman appellate competition within the Teaching Quizmasters program, an appellate competition in the fall open to all second and third year students and its sudden death finale in the spring and a trial competition. Interscholastic competition included State Bar Competition, National Moot Court. International Moot Court. Patent Moot Court and Client Counseling. Locke, Purnell Mock Trial Competition The Locke, Purnell Mock Trial Competition was held at the Law School October 10-15 and two finalist teams were chosen to advance to Region X competition. The first place team was composed of Scruggs. Bivens and Atlee; the second place team was made up of Selz, Sewell and Finley. Chris Scruggs and Craig Eggleston were the best advocates. The University served as host for the regional competition January 29-31. The two University teams ad- vanced to the final round and took first and second place. The first place team was Selz. Sewell and Finley and the second place team was Scruggs. Bivens and Atlee. Both teams went to Houston for the national competition sponsored by the State Junior Bar. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition The University team was chosen in local competition on December 2 and traveled to Tulsa. Oklahoma, on March 5-6 for the regional competition. The problem discussed this year concerned the subject of foreign expropriation. Team members are from left to right: Max Addison. Natalie Bayless and Dick Symonds. When rational arguments fail ... force is the ultimate international solution. National Moot Court Team University tryouts for the Moot Court Team were held on September 17. The team went to Dallas on October 31 for the regional competition and placed third. .Team members were from left to right: Mike Mullen, Craig Oliver and Lee Kaplan. 19
