CONSUL AWARDEES The Consul Award, instituted in 1954, is an annual award conferred on the twelve or more law students who have made the most outstanding contributions to the Law School through their active participation in extracurricular activities. The selection was made by a committee which reflected the viewpoints of a wide cross-section of the student body and whose members arc individually familiar with Law School activities and the students participating in them. Committee members for 1956 were Walter Barnett, Phi Alpha Delta; Robert Dabney, Delta Theta Phi; John Haas, The Praetors; Nancy Moody, Kappa Beta Pi; Larry Paniass, Phi Delta Phi; Newton Steele, Independent. Committee members consider not merely the holding of an office or membership in an organization, but attempt to evaluate the accomplishments of the student so participating and the benefit others derive from his participation. Scholarship is considered only as it may be evidenced through participation in extracurricular activities such as Texas Law Review staff positions, which are determined partially by scholastic achievement.
