I am certain that you have already observed this. At the beginning of the 1952-53 school year, the last year that the Law School operated from the old law building, the enrollment was 600. At the beginning of the current school year it was approximately 800. Thus, within a two-year span the enrollment increased 33-1 3 percent. A decision has been made to alter the admission requirements by requiring a C-plus average of all applicants with the proviso, however, that students who have as much as a C average but not as much as a C-plus will be permitted to enter, upon the taking and making of a satisfactory grade on a Law School Admission Test now being used by many of the best law schools. This is not expected, however, to alter materially the size of the second- and third-year classes but rather to reject some fifteen percent of those applicants who would otherwise be dropped for unsatisfactory work at the end of the first year. Furthermore. this will not, except for perhaps a year or two, prevent a continuing increase in enrollments. Fortunately, we are located well for expansion, and I foresee a necessity therefor. In the meantime, four very promising young men have been added to next year’s faculty, and I wish to assure you that the Law School administration is making every effort to provide a high level performance of instruction. Sincerely, Page Keeton Dean PAGE 2
