Chatty Tttt Comtek distinguished Professor of taw of The University of Texas One of America's Great Law Teachers A brief biographical sketch of Professor McCormick1 career gives but faint indication of his breadth of learning, his extensive intellectual and social interests, his sincere sympathies for his fellawmen, his staunch character, and of the high place he occupies in the esteetn of his fellow teachers, fie was born in 1689 of Texas stock prominent in the early history of the state, received the B A. degree from the University of Texas in 1909, LL.B. degree (cum laude) Harvard Law School 1912, LL.D. degree Southern Methodist University 1945. tie practiced law some ten years in Dallas with one of the leading law firms of the state, with time out for World War I, in which he served as a. lieutenant, tie came to the University of Texas as a professor of taw in 1922 , went to the University of North Carolina as professor of law in 1926 became dearv of the law school in 1927 went to Northwestern University as professor of law in 1931; became dean of the University of Texas Law School in 1940, and resigned the deanship ,o become a distinguished professor of law in 1949. tfe ias taught during summers m many of the other leading aw schools of the country, including Cornell, Vale, Chicago, Stanford, University of Washington, Columbia, and Harvard, tfis teaching has covered a large part of the law curriculum but the subjects of chief interest to him are Evidence, Federal Procedure and Damages, tie is the author of texts and casebooks on these subjects which are used in many schools, and has published many important articles In these and other fields in legal periodicals throughout the country. He is a past president of the American Law School Association, and has served on many important committees of the Association and of national, state and city bar associations. He is a member of many honorary societies. As a law teacher and administrator his imprint on American legal education, jurisprudence and the legal profession is extensive and indefjbte. he students of the University of Texas Law School salute him and stand in admiration of his splendid achievements and his lovable personality.
