N. T. O'Kelly, the one-eyed little miner who is familiar to all of us. We of the staff sincere- ly hope that you will find some of your favorite scenes within this book. Innovations in this annual include the use of color on the division pages, more copy, the entirely revised arrangement of the sections, and the first four- color cover in the yearbook's history. We wish to express our sincere thanks to Mr. Kazin K. Kazin and the Fine Arts Studio for taking the outstanding faculty, class, honorary, and some of the club pictures. Also, we wish to thank Mr. Ralph Lowenstein and the Student Publications Division Photography Staff for making most of the other pictures in this book. To Guynes Printing Company, we wish to extend our appreciation for their assistance and co-operation. The staff cannot express to the faculty and the Student Body its gratitude for the understanding and help in compiling this record of the school year. Last, but not least, we, the staff, wish to thank our enthusiastic advisor, Mr. John Middagh, who has encouraged our endeavors to make this edition superior to any in the Flowsheet's history. FLOWSHEET DEDICATION 0F 1959 His services and contributions to Texas Western College began in 1927 when the college, then Texas College of Mines, was founded. During his thirty-two years here, he has more than adequately filled the positions of Assistant, Associate, and full-time Professor in the Science Department. Born in Richvvood, Ghio, he attended Richvvood High School before entering Ohio State Univer- sity, Where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry and physics. In 1921 he received his Master of Science Degree in chemistry and math, and in 1941 he obtained his Ph.D in chemistry and math from the University of Chicago. Since then he has had several articles published in scientif- ic magazines. He served as the assistant in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Ohio State Univer- sity from 1912-13. He holds membership in Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, the American Chemical Society, Fellow American Association for the Advancement of Science, and he is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Social Fraternity. Before entering the Education field, he was the chemist for the National Carbon Company in Cleveland in 1913, and then from 1913-14 he served as the Chief Chemist for the William Edwards Company also in Cleveland. They have a daughter, Frances El- len, who attended Texas Western College, and is now married and living in El Paso. As most of you have concluded by now, the Flovvsheet Staff dedicates its 1959 yearbook to Dr. William Walter Lake. Dr. Lake's contributions to Texas Western and to the scientific World have been great. Our college is indeed fortunate to have on its staff such an outstanding person. 6
