Dr. Richard Alley OMICRO KAPP UP ILO Omicron Kappa Upsilon is a National Dental Honor Society. lt is comparable to other honorary fra- ternities now existing in leading universities. lt was established at Northwestern University in l9l4. A petition was sent to Dr. G. V. Black, Dean at Northwestern whose approval and guidance were instru- mental in its early development. Since its inception, 58 chapters have been developed in the United States and Canada. V The society was established to promote and recognize both scholarship and character. Only 12 per cent of the graduating class who have leadership potential and are of outstanding character can be elected into this societyg so it does represent a select group of individuals. This is a group of dedicated members ofthe dental profession who are bound together for the purposes of elevating our profession. The society promotes better dentistry, thereby serving mankind. Mu Nu Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon was organized and received its charter from the Supreme Chapter on June l, 1973. Since that time, there have been I4 Alumni members elected to membership and several Faculty and Honorary members recognized with this honor. Thomas B. Aufdemorte James E. Bauerle Harmon C. First organized in l976 to reco nize extr d' h' g aor mary ac uevement, El Gato Dental Society bases its membership on the ability to tell mendacious stories and a feel for weak b.s. Members live by those two famous sayings, Things are not always as they appear to be and What they don't know, won't hurt you. To date, all members plan to retire after graduation. This year the society attended the 52nd annual magicians workshop in Miami, Florida, where they demonstrated the latest in Gatto Technique. Many applicants are disillusioned at being rejected for membership in the society, failing to realize that this is a totally antisocial organization. The dean h as turned down our application for a Department of Gattoism but we will never give up trying.
