Marines Hacker Austin, population 496,561. The capital of the State of Texas offered its residents: 167 parks, 25 miles of hike and bike trails, the Colorado River, modern skyscrapers, historic landmarks, and a plethora of museums and theaters. But located in the heart of Austin was another city the University of Texas. Situated directly north of downtown, the UT Tower dominated the skyline. In the same way, the University made itself felt throughout the city, using its influence to help Austin become a technological, scien- tific and cultural center of the Southwest.
