TIME OUT I remember reading the reports and seeing the pictures coming back from Palm Springs and Daytona Beach during spring break and not being able to believe It. Vacationing students were jumping off balconies, fighting the police and ripping the clothes off panic-stricken female motorists. Then I got to think- ing about the people at South Padre. Oh sure, everybody else seemed to have time to play. For me, goofing off was a trade-off. Sleep for sin. Employment for enjoyment. I had to give up one thing for another. And while other folks were recovering from weekday nights on Sixth Street or lounging at Barton Springs, I spent time trotting around Clark Reid. The exercise was good. The sights were better. I took the long way around the track just to see Jester Beach a tanning mecca on the south side of the dormitory. But other times, when I sat at my desk at work and watched people out the window, I wondered why everybody bemoaned the coming of THE REAL WORLD. For me, that world would mean just holding one job and not having to think about transformational grammar. But I had to suppress my self- righteous wailings. Actually, I wasn ' t appalled or critical of the people who didn ' t have to make trade-offs. I was just jealous. By Michael Sutler 8 Take a Look Intkte

TRIPLICATE It was a fairly simple matter of Adds and Drops at the Erwin Center, primarily because It happened every semester: I registered for 18 hours, hoped for 12, got nine, dropped three and added six. I scrambled for classes along with 18,000 other people a process which took me a couple of hours. Gathering all of my add forms, drop forms, my trusty map of the Erwin Center concourse and a chewed pen- cil, I trekked over to the final check- out table. The guy absentmlndedly motioned me Into the main auditorium. I blend- ed into the seats on my left, nine rows of 45 people, each just waiting. I counted ' em, sure. What else was I gonna do while I waited there with them? Alast I was united with my revised schedule. The fruits of four years ' labor and my last 13 hours! Graduation, sure, ... after a three-hour session In summer school, the counselor told me a few days later. Another three hours! Aaugh! A quick eeny-meeny-mlny-mo got me my last three hours. I was re- lieved to find departmental adds less paper-burdened than centralized. So you do want to take this pass fall? the lady behind the counter asked me. No problem. You ' ll need to go back to your col- lege, get a little slip that says It ' s OK, come back here, I ' ll stamp it . . . By Anne Eby 10 Take a Look Inside
