TIME OUT I remember reading the reports and seeing the pictures coming back from Palm Springs and Daytona Beach during spring break and not being able to believe It. Vacationing students were jumping off balconies, fighting the police and ripping the clothes off panic-stricken female motorists. Then I got to think- ing about the people at South Padre. Oh sure, everybody else seemed to have time to play. For me, goofing off was a trade-off. Sleep for sin. Employment for enjoyment. I had to give up one thing for another. And while other folks were recovering from weekday nights on Sixth Street or lounging at Barton Springs, I spent time trotting around Clark Reid. The exercise was good. The sights were better. I took the long way around the track just to see Jester Beach a tanning mecca on the south side of the dormitory. But other times, when I sat at my desk at work and watched people out the window, I wondered why everybody bemoaned the coming of THE REAL WORLD. For me, that world would mean just holding one job and not having to think about transformational grammar. But I had to suppress my self- righteous wailings.
